It's almost close to a month, and yeah, the effects are still very very vague.
I've reached the peak of my weight during BMT, 102kg. Ok, the weight was actually lower than that then, but it's around there la~
The workout, once again was almost the same as last week, although I've managed to increase the weights to at least 15 reps liao... but... to increase the weights at a minimium of 5 kg... haiz...
And after much thinking, I should fall back to 6 meals, unless there's no tea breaks...
Cookhouse aunties serving food are getting more and more unlimited... They just scoop and scoop. And the food is sometimes so wonderful (read: Western Course or Asian Specialities), I just can't stop. It's like difficult to put it aside as waste...
Then there's the junk food, i dunno if it's ok with it. On Friday, I met up with Marcus, Di, Jason and company at Pastamania. Ate some stir-fried garlic pasta, which tasted good due to the massive amounts of olive oil, and a sesame pizza that tasted like char siew... hahaha. And the next day, I was supposed to go for a movie and a dinner, but thank god, there's not enough people. But still, on that day itself, I ate KFC with my mum and brother at home for dinner...
Then the hell, I've finally injured myself... Unexpectedly. I went to a department to photocopy some stuff, tried to move back a bit, when suddenly, my right leg stepped on the foot of someone. That person has guts, I swear. He actually swung the foot so fast, that I felt that familiar feeling of a sprained knee again, the two bones shifting out of place.
And now, I can't walk so fast.
There's also the incident of knocking my right fist into a door so hard when I sprung up from lying down on a sofa nearby, bruising my right index finger... OWww.
Ok, for next week, I shall:
1) Increase the weights in my weights training. (2.5 kg for weights, 10 for weights)
2) really watch my eating habits for at least 85% of my meals.
3) keep my aerobic activity at at least 50% of my max heart rate (100 Beats)

Week 3 Summary
This week is a bit different from the other two weeks...
Did a little bit of trying out.. experienced new stuff again.
The biceps curls are getting more and more difficult with each set, even though I'm still using the set weight... why?
Other than that, this might be a non-progressive week for me. Weights are randomly taken, went for extra food at least 3 times in a week... Hai, and I took my weight when I woke up: 104kg.
Liewz...
Next week, I'll be aiming for a higher walking speed. at least 8 rounds in half hour... this week's pretty slow already...
Motivation is starting to wane, and yeah, now that I am able to fit into smaller jeans, this is starting to make me think that all this is enough...
Argh... must think on the other side.... Must lose MORE!!!
And how does one measure intensity during weights training?
Hmm....

Week 3 Log
Over the days at camp, I write about the day on book. So here I am rewriting it on this blog here...
---------------
Week 3, Day 1, 14 feb 2005
---------------
Walk 1: Dunno sia
Walk 2: Just walk loh I just know it's fast...
A tough day it is. Slept late in the morning and miss my walk as I booked in late last night. Made up for it by having it in the afternoon... My secret training was nearly found out haha... I've decided to put exercise at the top of my priority list, and missed out on time for errands, like cutting hair and buying dri-fit vests.
Alas, for not cutting my hair, got fucked loh... Then, later during the usual PT walk for Mon-Wed-Fri, it was a pretty nice experience.
I brisked walked at a faster pace than usual, Got to take over a certain Sgt Song and the advocator of this compuslory PT, some retired Major. WOW HEHE...
That Sgt Song is a fat person. Always talking about stuff I really hate to hear:
1) Saying about the main thing in marathons is just, endurance, and he says he can prove it. Then how the hell is a marathon gonna mean, when you seem to be running, yet in actual fact, just jogging at a pace silghtly slower than a brisk walker??!!
2) He has been saying that he wants to lose weight, but his diet is more disappointing than what I ate before I started training. And even invitations to get him to the gym during teabreaks and lunches are oh so impossible.
I really hate this kind of people. 'Wayang' would be the best army term to describe them.
But the brisk walk had a fallback: my Hip flexors are sore, so are my balls and toes of my feet. Signs of shin splints are also showing up...
Tried out the gyms avaiable in the camp.
1st one's the gym in ATC, next to the stadium. Requires booking of the key, small, but it has the usual machines for isolation leg exercises. 2nd gym is in 46 SAR, and it sure is big. And new. And modern.
1st gym was really a hassle, so I gave a try for the second one. 4 ppl only booked in for the day at that time, and all fit-zhai (super fit) one.
The machines were all cables, catered to the intermediate ppl. There is a squats machine, lifts, lats, calf, crossover, chest.
All wired up. It's just so difficult to create the correct range of motion for each rep. Guess I have to re-record the weights again next workout.

Week3, Day 2, 15 Feb 2005
---------------
Walk 1: 9.2 km/hr (5.26miles/hr)
Walk 2: Dunno again
Yesterday's noon walk got me sunburnt. Deltoids are pretty sore too: it's been a long time since I used the lat machine. Anyway, I took half day off in the afternoon, and did the walk at home. Was scared I'll be late for book in, so I took a half hearted walk away from my home in the first half, and brisked walked back home.
What resulted was a half hearted walk that ended in 25 mins.
In other news, the cook house food is getting too difficult to control. Servings are too much to see, so I just returned to 3 square meals. Until I don't feel hungry of course.
---------------
Week 3, Day 3, 16 Feb 2005
---------------
Walk 1: 6km/hr (3.75miles/hr)
Walk 2: 9km/hr (5.6 miles/hr)
Tough day again. Got rapped by fellow bunkmate James for scurrying like a rat iin the dark. Because I wake one hour earlier than them, I guess I really harassed their sleep patterns. But in the first place, I was the one who makes the effort to wake up and get fit. Jame's obese too.
So screw them.
Anyways, new Sergeant comes, and more thorough jobs done. Really sweated it out over this one, climbing up and down trucks, pumping up the cabin and such. By then, I'm more smellier than ever, and houseflies LOVE ME.
PT walk was an attention thriller. The sergeant, once again, did a slow jog, but this time, he upped the tempo. Managed to beat me by two rounds, before he went slow again, and I caught up with him as always. I hear the people on the sides, who just rested from jogging 6 rounds, saying,
"Wah lau, no matter how the Sergeant Jog, Ziting's walking pace still catch up with him."
That feeling was great. Sure sure, it sounds like Ziting is conceited in brisk walking. But seriously, it felt like a competition, and that feeling of "winning the race" is just so great.
Obviously, the ones resting have noticed the sergeant, and me, who is slugging out for the fastest of all in half an hour.
When I caught up with him, Sgt Song finally stopped and was huffing his way to the washroom... hahaha...
Today is Junk food day. I went for the Yu Sheng dinner with my relatives. Despite attempts to limit my food intake, my relatives were really frowning, when they saw that I was two dishes slower. So they had me munching up the rest of the day.
Oh yeah, I have dizzy spells upon exiting the camp. Delayed meals maybe?
Oh yeah, I ate a box of unwanted takoyaki.
---------------------------
Week 3, Day 4, 17 Feb 2005
----------------------------
Walk 1: 5.8 km/hr
Walk 2: 6 km/hr
Lethargic day, yeah, I slept late again... because of the blardy stand by bed that was imposed last night... and it was a fake.
Walks were taken in the evening, and at night.
Realised that normal speed for this week is @~ 5-6 km/hr. That is like 3++ miles/hr. Need to have at least 4++ miles to make an effective exercise...
Got caught for the first time, sleep during office hours. Lucky never kanna extra.
Tried to book the gym keys for the small gym. Yeah, the small gym that has the standard equipment... Only open from 8-5pm. have to give it a try tmr during lunch...
Today is really a Endorphin-filled day for me. Basically, I was smiling throughout the day, nope, no downs, except for the part that Sgt caught me. Lame jokes and pranks can make me ROFL anytime...
Pants are getting suprisingly looser and looser. The Giordano Jeans that I have at the last Prom Night, was drooping off without any belt. Last time I could not wear Hang Ten Jeans, not even the largest size. Now I could. although it's size 38. Now I've got the kick to try on the tight army XL shorts. It was damn tight last time, even though I wore it in my best shape during BMT.
------------------
Week 3, Day 5, 18 Feb 2005
------------------
It's the usual, except for the fact I booked in at the small gym. The ways of the military politics is here again... took me half an hour to get into the gym. I guess it's not possible to go to this gym. The importance of having to go to only one gym is again proven. Tried 50 KG on the knee extensions and realised I can't do it. The 50kg here and the 50kg there are different? haiz... weights pattern is disrupted again.
Ok, that's all about a week in army camp...

The Ultimate Resolution So Far.
Well, dun really like to cut and paste the whole shit, here's the link to the whole story....
Link to the sad sad story of Zeng Ziting...
Alright, the one activity that I'm worried about, would be the failure to carry out aerobic exercises (read: walking) and weights training (who would allow a bandaged guy in crutches in the gym anyway?)
That's like telling me to delay this program by at least 2 months. So, I've come to an ultimate resolution.
And if my weight doesn't go down, I guess I could attribute part of it to insufficient aerobic exercise. I am pretty sure, jogging, or even running uses more calories than walking or brisk walking alone.
After the ligament-reconstruction, I can finally start concentrating on doing high impact exercises. As of now, I can just rely on walking or cross-training, because of my knee ligament. It's the only alternative to running and jogging.
Til then, I shall give a toast to my weight loss campaign. Cheers!

If I do not get my weight to 95 kg by 18/04/04 (which is my next appointment date) and don't see a future driving course in place, I will commence the operation immediately, and postpone this program until further notice.By that time, it'll probably be the first day of Week 12: a good time to access my current target and how far is it to it.

The perfect excuse to sudden weight loss
This, is the PERFECT excuse as to why I lost so much weight during week 1:
During Week 0, I suppose I have not been hydrating myself regularly, until after week 1. Now the weight lost is pretty much lesser, at least I'm losing fat, not water!
Water makes up about 60% of total body mass. Normal fluctuations in the body’s water content can send scale-watchers into a tailspin if they don’t understand what’s happening. Two factors influencing water retention are water consumption and salt intake. Strange as it sounds, the less water you drink, the more of it your body retains. If you are even slightly dehydrated your body will hang onto it’s water supplies with a vengeance, possibly causing the number on the scale to inch upward. The solution is to drink plenty of water.

Summary of Week 2
Week 2 ah.... pretty eventful..
Lots of temptations, mostly I subcumb to them... why? It's the festival, lah... but at the very least, I did try to control the amount....
Read up a lot more stuff on the net, and after all that, I'm pretty sure of myself that there has to be improvements in carrying the weights. Must increase the iron plates right? But when?
So I've got a 'Try This!' Upon every workout, increase the load by 5 pounds. If I can't carry at least 10 reps, I'll just drop to the original weight, and continue the second set.
But if I can carry at least 10 reps, I'll just have to get it to 12 and POOF! I add another 5 pounds to the plates...
Then there's this thing about not working out for too long at the gym. After 47 minutes in the gym, the body will start to use muscle tissue to expend energy. No way, I'm gonna make that happen, So it's either spilt up the gym workouts to two, or do it fast and furious...
And during a set, I must not rest my worked muscles!!!!!
Now I hope that military politics will not deter my way of using the army gym.... Or else it's a long way to my neighbourhood gym...
Aerobics wise, I made a few adjustments to my schedule... I need at least 90 minutes of brisk walking a day to make sure I can make my target of losing 1 kg of fat everyday. But after trying out the 60 minute walk, I'm pretty convinced that I won't have the determination to continue after a few weeks of this...
So I'll just have two 30minute walks as said before, and if this is bearable for a few weeks, I'll just extend it to two 45minute walks....
Alright, now for my stats....
Current Height: 1.83 m (height^2 = 3.3489)
Current Weight: 103 kg (got 100 at the gym though)
Current BMI: 30.75 (Woo!!! I smell the twenties!!!)
Weight Loss: 1 kg (1 lah, it's slowing down....)

Another Outing = More Calories
Went out to chill a bit with my friends during a house visit, and realised for the umpteen time, that when I eat, I am stereotyped, I get commented on things that don't exist, but what couldn't be worse than eating would be...
Alcohol.
Yeah, Alcohol, and mixers.
Drank at least 4 cups of vodka with 7-up, trying to look up the number of calories I have taken in, and luckily, just a mouthful of Cloudy 9 (that chocolate coated peanut/marshmellow mish mash)
But with the dinner I just took just now, I really think that it's at least twice out of proportion of my normal light dinner...
I guess I'll also stick to two 30min walks. it's better, and less tiring to do it in one swoop flat.
Gym as usual, and I think I'm finally making improvements in the weights that I use...
210kg for leg press
15kg for barbell bicep curl
120lb for leg curl
50 kg for knee extension
36kg for triceps extension
15 kg for bench press
I nearly lost energy in the last two exercises, but got to the conclusion I'm in the gym for too long....

Suddenly In need of Attention again
It's been weeks since I've went out for a movie, for a dinner at a restaurant...
I guess I'm missing my friends again. For a while, being in loneliness feels great (isn't that scary?) due to the fact that having crazed lifestyles with my army mates in camp is a killer, and having to rest at home with my family, sure feels good.
But after a one week break, and being at home for eternity, I guess it's time to go out roaming again....
Maybe I'd watch Constantine when it releases on Feb 18, and I catch it with my friends on next saturday. But NO..... Constantine is released in Singapore on Feb 8, and I had to reject my friend's invitation to watch the movie because I had a house visit to my ex-classmates on that night...
Let's hope there's a next time...

Verdict of a 60-min walk
I have never ever, Brisked-Walked for such a long time.
It's extremely tiring.
Alright... Let me go through the ordeal...
Started the walk in the evening, and decided to walk the usual route from yew tee to CCK. Didn't know why but I still had time to spare in an half hour space, even though I'm walking.
Then I thought, what the hell, I could walk for at least an hour with this. How wrong could I be...
So I walked to the stadium, and found out, it was occupied by my former secondary school. Felt helpless about it, and continued walking down the route until I reached my (yes, I'm getting a little nostalagic here) former secondary school's X-country route. I guess there's no harm in walking down that path, so I walked....
And walked....
And walked.....
It seemed endless, like I was pounding my way through a jungle. Until I passed some junior college. It's been some time since I've walked around the area of my secondary school, but last experiences were pretty distasteful.
That time, I was trying to enter the school from the polyclinic after taking off stitches of my bloody toe (another story), in my batik shorts, and a really tight shirt hugging my belly. Tried to sneaked into the school, but the 911 event wouldn't allow it.
Got referred to the office, and tried to find teachers I knew, but they were all gone... I guess, with my current attire, it's close to impossible to enter the school like this...
Remember me... I will one day enter the school again, this time as a successful man, and scorn you all... haha...
But I digress...
Anyways, reached the junior college part of my walk, and I realised that I just walked for only 40 minutes. By that time, my legs were aching so much that I was thinking of taking the bus home straight away. My mouth was so thirsty that I thought of taking some soft drinks at the nearby Mcdonald's store.
BUT....
I didn't bring any money....
So I stretched a bit, and continued my walk. Passed by my secondary school, and I saw...
ARGH!!!! Small secondary school children!!! Staring at me!!! Thinking why am I not jogging but walking!!!!
I scurried like a rat, and got on my way.
When I finally reached home, I, with a heavy heart, started thinking about how tiring it is to walk for an hour without hydration...
Maybe I'll try walking again today, and this time I shall bring a 1.5L water bottle.
For now, it's the gym, woohoo!!!
It's extremely tiring.

Information Searching
Today is a free day... added a few more information on my sidebar, so I could immediately access them if needed. Did a approximate calculation of my calorie intake/output, based on some websites... And I came to this solution:
Losing 1 kg per week is IMPOSSIBLE with my current workout schedule.
I can't believe it myself, but after looking at what I just typed on my side bar...
My Bio-Info
So the only way left is to increase the intensity of my walking exercise. There is no way I am going to jog/run it out, as past experiences have told me that I will be binging yet again after these kinds of exercises.
Guess it all goes in increasing the time of the exercise, and the frequency...
If I increase my frequency to two times a day...
My Bio-Info
My Bio-Info
Alright....
Losing 1 kg per week is IMPOSSIBLE with my current workout schedule.
I can't believe it myself, but after looking at what I just typed on my side bar...
My Bio-Info
- Daily BMR: 2640 kcal
- Daily Walking: 330 kcal
- Daily Food Intake: 2500 kcal
- Daily Calorie Defcit: 470 kcal
- Weekly Calorie Defcit: 3290 kcal ~= 1 pound of fat (3500 kcal)
And 1 kg equates to about 2.2 pounds.
The only way to increase my calorie deficit is to increase my ouput, or decrease my input. The second one is out of the question, as I have been eating small meals now, and if I skip anyone of them, my Metabolic rate will surely fall...So the only way left is to increase the intensity of my walking exercise. There is no way I am going to jog/run it out, as past experiences have told me that I will be binging yet again after these kinds of exercises.
Guess it all goes in increasing the time of the exercise, and the frequency...

My Bio-Info
- Daily BMR: 2640 kcal
- Daily Walking: 330 kcal * 2 = 660kcal
- Daily Food Intake: 2500 kcal
- Daily Calorie Defcit: 800 kcal
- Weekly Calorie Defcit: 5600 kcal ~= 1.6 pound of fat
My Bio-Info
- Daily BMR: 2640 kcal
- Daily Walking: 330 kcal + 672 kcal = 1002 kcal
- Daily Food Intake: 2500 kcal
- Daily Calorie Defcit: 1142 kcal
- Weekly Calorie Defcit: 8008 kcal ~= 2.2 pounds of fat (1 kg loh yeah!!!)

DIdn't walk again... illness strikes...
It must be the food I ate on Monday... either that or it's the same insect bite that caused my sister to get the same thing before...
No matter, I've got rashes and a very bad cough.
Rashes, as in they getting red and angry, spreading through my body (hey it rhymes...), whenever it is hot and not airy. Air con on the CNY's eve did help to alleviate the rashes a bit, but it still got worse around the night.
Cough? it's been here for a week now. Only thing is that the problems got worse a bit... Wheezing? Water in lung? I dunno... it's just harder to breathe.
So I landed up at the hospital in the middle of the night, NUH to be precise. Written waiting time was expected to be 2 to 2 1/2 hours, but, lucky me (or not), I got in within 15 mins. A trainee doctor gave a diagnosis and I landed in the observation ward, having a good time with the female doctors, nurses, breathing medicine and oxygen together, and getting intravenous.
Yeah, that part didn't hurt. What hurt is that the doctor gave me two injections to my shoulder joint that left me nearly screaming in pain. Up til now, my muscles around that are still sore, aching like hell knows how bad it is...
Yep, as a result of that, I missed one more day of walking.
Today's gym day, and it was pretty rushed. Left home late, even though I know the gym was closing early. Arrived, stretched and did the machines. Didn't really do the barbell exercises this time, as I read up papers and got freaked out by the miniscule injuries that could happen, like the infamous stress fractures.
Was my squat correct? even though my spine was straight, and leaning at a near 30 degrees. Would I injure my back?
So I gave most of the usual exercises a miss, and did the others on the available machines. I don't even know how much I could carry; I just carried the load that I could get at 12 reps, and continue for 3 sets. But fatigue carries on in the end, and I could not even manage 8 standard reps in the last set. Had to swing (yeah, I know it's bad), and engage the other muscles (I know Machines are isolated exercises.)
Not good.
Worst of all, I took my weight, and compared it with the one I did last Thurday during my first gym experience.
101.80 kg. SAme old, same old.
Not good...
But I knew it would happen. Why?
I failed my first obstacle. Mum's reunion dinner... it's a killer. I think I ate a quarter of a duck (a fat one too), and a quarter of a chicken (fat one too...). Both are greasy, yet yummy. And the chicken has a special sauce to dip in, which is a conbination of golden-fried garlic, oyster sauce, light soy sauce and a LADLE OF OIL...
Couldn't really start my small meals, as cooking was limited to three times a day, and house visits were frequent. Drank a packet of lemon tea, and 3 cups of orange juice (read: soft drink), and consumed at least 3 handfuls of snacks. Curious lah...
So this is really a disappointing week. If this goes on, I shall have to reaccess my diet and workout plan, and make sure I lose two kg next week...

Ah... Major Junk Food....
Yesterday in the afternoon... Got a hunger pang... Thought I could avert it by by getting my trusty bottle of plain water and gulp some down, but NO.... My bottle is empty.
As such, I got myself a drink, Regular Coke, and after staring at the counter, fantasizing about the wonderful desserts, I got another Ice Cream Cone.... Covered in Oreo Cookie Crumbs...
I swear man, it's good. Although I restricted myself to one junk meal a week, this one week, will be one hell to go through man...
It's the CHINESE NEW YEAR!!!! CNY CNY CNY CNY.....
With things like this, there is surely a reunion dinner, and the tons of snacks available when you visit other people's house...
Why the hell am I writing this?
Well... by 'believing in the religous food control', I have 'sinned'...Whoops... sorry... as a free thinker, doesn't deserve to write these sacred words...
I ate a little too much yesterday.
And I still ate an ice cream cone and regular coke before the 'big thing'.
Because, after that, my army unit had a dinner at a restarurant in the 'ulu ulu' part of Beauty World Shopping Centre.
9 'terrok' dishes, 6 tables of ten, and outdoors too.
I can still remember the deep fried chicken pieces, or the fried sea bass, or the chillikang kong sweet potato leaves, and... ah the infamous crunchy, not! prawns in not wheat, but egg strands...
All this dishes sound disgusting, but you believe me: I ate more than twice the servings of the dishes, and more.
Just how did this happen?
When you have a sergeant, who has the power to give you three extra duties just because of a little whim, forcingly giving you heaps of heaps of food that he wouldn't want, would you take it in your stride?
If you wouldn't, I guess I don't have balls with me. Heck, I forgotten to bring it to dinner too.
Ah.... got to resist... If this goes on, I will be sterotyped as a fatty who is obilged to eat food, and in turn, get happy about it....
Three big obstacles ahead...
1) Mum's much awaited reunion dinner, and her incredibly tasty dishes.
2) Forced to be a vegetarian one the CNY first day, how can I avoid all the carbohydrates coming at me???
3) Chinese New Year Visits = snacks snacks and more snacks, and NO SMALL MEALS.
And my calorie intake will be more than my calorie output...
Wish me Luck... GONG XI FA CAI...

Bad Boy...
Ah... I didn't walk today.... The lack of computer time, due to afternoon spring cleaning... the endless procastinations meal after meal...
And now's it's almost 10pm, time to get back to camp...
WHY DIDN'T I WALK TODAY??!!!

No balls to say...
I guess most of my friends should know by now... I have been saying no to a lot of meet-outs... Maybe it's just me, and my tardiness really smashed my self-confidence. But for some weird reason, it's good...
I get to save money on expenses.... Really, it's not like I don't like you guys anymore. Come on... friends forever right?
But I suppose I will have to meet up with you all on my birthday celebration. By that time, I hope (I mean will) lose 26kg and look leaner, and meaner to you people.
For now, I guess I'm staying in the back scenes for a bit... I swear to the skies above, that I hate the comment that I have slimmed down even though it ain't true. Seriously, it's irritating me a lot, and I know it. Losing 4 kilos out of the supposed 26++kg and getting a comment like that sounds really pathetic... because....
That comment spurs me on that I have done enough (when I have not) , and I, once again, stop exercising, and start eating back my kilos.

Gym Visit #2 / Week 1 Summary
It's time for the second gym visit.... La la la
Usual Workout, got a little variations.
For One, I found a fellow spotting partner, Roy. Pardon me if I'm gay, but I got to aqquaint him through by grinning.
Yeah, Grinning. It happened after I did the knee extensions machine for three sets, and was relaxing for a while. forgot that others will be using it, until some indian guy, with gangster-looking ear-studs and lip-studs came glancing at the machine.
Just like that, I got to know another gym maniac. Taught me a lot of stuff, and a really good spotter.
But, I guess I'm just too shy to get advice from those with bulging biceps and pecs. Oh well... it's just me.
Secondly, I have to thank whoever had the idea of making a week have 7 days. with that, even if I have no choice but to do it on tuesdays, thursdays, and saturdays, I can still rest the needed 48 hours, and change the schedule to odd days.
On to the exercises....
Cross trainer, 20 minutes
-------------------------
Yeah! I tried a new aerobic machine... it's called the cross trainer! basically it's like skiing, but something like walking. The exercise had low impact on my joints as there is not really any weight pressing on it.
Took to it, because I didn't walk for 30 minutes today, so I had a replacement. The machine's a little cock up, measuring wrong heartbeats, but at least the time elapsed it right.
But time is relative to the observer of time. Time felt really long when doing the machine, just like cycling on a stationary machine. Guess the feeling of time flying by cannot be felt here unlike walking or jogging around places...
Squats, 15 kg
---------------
Yeah, same old, same old, but I think I could increase the resistance a bit.
inclined bench press 10 + 5kg
----------------------------
Did a inclined bench press with the barbell. For some reason, the barbell is very thick. I assume, it weighs 10 kg, as it really gets to my hand just like the biceps curl.
It's difficult to push the weights straight up, as my arms feel shaky, and there's no control of the range of motion, unlike the machines.
One Legged Heel raises
----------------------
same old, same old. Only difference now is that I step upon a wooden block so that the heels of my knee have no chance to rest on the ground.
Knee extensions 30kg
--------------------
Thought I could manage 50kg, but hahah... no I can't. So...
Leg curl 100pds
----------------
Same old, Same old...
smith machine inclined bench press
-----------------------------------
Now this was the one that I did with Roy as spotter.
I start with 12 reps of 20kg, and I discovered that I could go more, unlike the previous bench press. I guess it's the mechanics of the smith machine: it has two pulley strings, that really controls the motion of the weights straight up and down, so I just have to exert my muscles to push the god damn thing up.
I guess I could go for more, so I increased 5 more kg. Sure was shag. By the 8 reps, my arms were so fatigued that I needed Roy to assist resulting in a failed rep.
Then, Mr Roy suggested that, as I am just going for strength, I could try some high resistances with low reps. so it's up 10 more kg, for 4 reps. I got fatigued again, and Roy had to help me with the weights. Did this for one more set, with the same results. But I could feel the muscles really 'pumped' up, even though it's temporary.
1st set: 20kg/12 reps
2nd set: 25kg/12 reps
3rd/4th set: 35kg/4 reps/2 sets
Week 1 Summary
---------------
Alright, the end of the week is near, and I think the program is working along just fine. The meals ain't really specifc, just spilt up meals of the normal breakfast, lunch and dinner. Main thing is that I ate until I don't feel hungry anymore.
Exercises are relaxing, yet not that discouraging. I had been thinking about the jogs, and runs I made during the poly years. Such a waste. If I had taken care of my diet at that time. Jogging is pretty much a put off, as you need to get in gear, and get jogging around with a motivation and determination. And of course, to cope with that tiredness after all that.
Walking? Hah! it's as simple as that. Walk anywhere loh, like I did to the gym. just make sure it's continuous until the 30 minute mark. Do it everyday, and it's really as simple as that... :-)
The morning workouts really work, guess the magazines (CLEO. Yeah CLEO I read it in my army unit...) are right about this one.
Gym workouts are not confusing, and simple to complete and do. Time really flies with this. But I've got this strain on my right biceps that won't go off... I hope the gym workout works...
Alright.... ^_^
Current Height: 1.83 m
Current Weight: 104 kg (got 101.6 at the gym though)
Current BMI: 31.3 (yeah come one more and I'm below morbid obeses!!! WAHOO!)
Weight Loss: 2 kg (2 lah, can right?)

Eating Slowly...
When I eat small meals... I tend to have the tendency not to waste food. So comes the new age advice of eating slowly up til the point of 20 minutes.
Read up on the net and found some advice:
- Chew Slowly
- Get into a conversation
- Drink more water
- Drink more soup
- When all else fails, grab a fruit
And I just discovered a new way to eat slow...
Just had my small meal after lunch, a pathetic looking plate of stir-fried noodles with egg white. Well, obviously, even after exhausting nearly all the methods above, I finaly settled down for a ... fruit. A slice of watermelon to be exact.
Thought that the melon's already ready and sliced yesterday after dinner, but I realised I ate the last two slices in the morning. So, I took to task and sliced and de-skinned the remaining half of the watermelon.
Took some time, and by the it was finished, I didn't feel that hungry anyone. Guess time flies by real fast when you do something, eh?
But...
I ate another TWO slices while slicing... hahah...
Alright... Got to go for the usual daily walk now... Just hope I won't get looks from the white collar workers and students that are going home... Si Bei Pai Seh...

Weight Loss Extreme??
Wow... I took a look at the weighing scale today out of curiosity and ....
I WEIGH 101.60 KG!!!
Well, not actually... the weight was taken at the gym during my first weight training exercise, yeah on a thursday...
But, upon reaching home, I solemnly put myself up onto the weighing scale...
104kg.
STILL I LOST 4 KILOS!!!!
Maybe the initial weighing was a little erroneous, so I guess I am losing the usual starting water mass of 2-4 kilos...

Thursday At the Gym...
Finally got to my first official weights training at the gym today. Thank god I had an off day from today to friday.
Although the distance to gym was walkable, I tried to integrate my daily walk on the way to the gym. To a normal person, it really looks stupid as I go one BIG round on the other roads to make sure that the walk took 30 minutes.
Too bad. Either I was too fast, or the route's too short. The walk took 20 minutes, even with the resting a bit to tighten my shoelaces!
I think my left knee is starting to act up for no reason... So I got myself another knee guard. Tight and firm, but not really sure if it will really hold my knee in place.
I sense another ligament trouble coming...
Anyways, I went to the gym, and worked out a bit, before getting real.
Warm Up
----------
Did 3 sets of 20 reps on gym machines, mainly the pectoral fly, bench press, leg curls, and the military press.
Only thing is that I took 10 pounds for each machines.
....... Yeah. 10 pounds. The pec fly was a real warm up though, got my pecs fatigued for a bit, but, hell yeahthank god the machine was huge, and people don't really have the eyes to see that I look very pussy.
I guess the warm up routine will be stuck mainly to machines. I really looked stupid to carry 1kg dumbbells, and doing 20reps of standing bicep curls in front of a mirror. I even heard a couple of giggles behind, so.... you know...
Ah.... So I continued on to the exercises, alternating upper body and lower body exercises. Some were done on machines, some with the famous dumbbells, and some with the cumbersome barbell.
---------------
Upper Body
----------------
Biceps Curls, 3 sets of 8-12 reps, 5kg per hand :
-------------------------------------------------
Did 5kg each on each arm with dumbbells
, and got my right arm fatiqued before I could reach the 8th rep of my second set.
Did the last rep with a barbell though, and got 10 kg to carry.
Bench Press, 3 sets of 8-12 reps, 80 pounds(30+ kg):
-----------------------------------------------------
Did this on a machine, and realised that my pecs seem pretty strong compared to the curls. Maybe it's just the difference in muscle mass... haha....
Military Press, 3 sets of 8-12 reps, 80 pounds(30+ kg):
--------------------------------------------------------
No problems with this too... managed to finish this set up til 12, minimium 8.
----------
Lower Body
----------
Squats, 3 sets of 8-12 reps, 10kg barbell:
-------------------------------------------
Couldn't find a smith squat machine around, and I feel that the leg press was pretty much worthless since I could do the max weight on the machine without any problems (20/12).
I sweated a lot during this exercise. I don't know why, maybe it's the water I drank just before this exercise that got me sweating all over.
And 10kg worth of barbell weights on my shoulders only?
Yeah. I dunno why, but, my legs nearly collapsed after taking 10 more kg on my current weight. normally, I could managed 20 reps of normal squats for 3 sets, but with just 10 kg and I get so tired? Hell, man...
Right... maybe taking 10 more kg onto my current 104kg is too much...
Leg Curl, 3 sets of 8-12 reps, 100 pounds (40++ kg):
----------------------------------------------------
Wow... The leg curl is siong. I swear man. Of all exercises, I detest this one. I remember the last times I went to the gym and did standing leg curls on a machine. It's super tiring. Having to control the lifting and releasing of the weight is a killer.
I nearly couldn't curl in my legs all the way, and I nearly gave up after counting 8 reps.
------------------------------------------------------------
One leg calf raise, 3 sets of 12 reps, no additional weight:
------------------------------------------------------------
Yes!!! I can finally raise my heels all the way!!!!!! Wahoo! maybe I should continue with additional weights if I can managed 3 sets of 20 reps.
I guess the workout's enough, and seeing that I had one fish along with a few slices of meat, I suppose my protein intake after the workout is enough.
Alright this is it...
